The Tina Kim Gallery features a series by the late Pacita Abad (1946-2004) called Underwater Wilderness, an exhibition created from 1985-1989 that highlights Abad’s experience scuba diving in the Philipines. Pacita had a fear of water prior to learning how to scuba dive in the early 80s, and her work is a reflection of her conquering fear and discovering the wonders of the ocean. Her creations of trapuntos, multi-medium textile paintings, tell the story of the surreal world that deep under water.
