The work is emblematic of Mire Lee’s lifelong engagement with the topics of intimacy, consumption, tactility, violence, and the body. Fabricated by dipping fabrics and cloth into slip clay, which are left to harden and dry, the works evoke the appearance and sensorial nature of skin — albeit ripped, shredded, and torn apart. This work emerges from the artist's ongoing investigation of the existential and temporary nature of our own flesh. Like organs laid bare, with no protection, Lee’s sculptures contain a surprising intimacy and beauty, alongside their gore and transgression.2of 2
